4/30 Prairie City Race Series: Prairie City OHV Park, 5 mi. south of Folsom. 6 p.m. Cross country MTB event. Moderate hills, single track and jeep roads. Distances vary each week, 3.1 to 4 mi. laps. Beginner 2 laps, Sport 3 laps, Expert 4 laps. Fees: $25 on-line pre-registration, add $10 for race day reg., only $12 each race thereafter. Helmets req'd. 5/17 10th Annual Mountain Bike Endurance Ride: Nevada City. This event is a benefit for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nevada County. 45 and 50 mi. routes that follow a beautiful loop out of Nevada City on local trails, including the incomparable South Yuba River Trail. The route is approximately 80% singletrack, 7,000+ ft. of climbing, with stunning views of the river. In place of registration fees, we ask riders to try and raise $250 in pledges for mentoring programs. Fee includes t-shirts, bags full of goodies, check points with first-aid, water and snacks, as well as lunch and dinner for all riders. 5/1 2008 Swanton Road Time Trials: near Davenport. 11.0 mi. out-and-back course; 5.5 mi. up Swanton Rd. (includes a 1.2 mi. climb), turn around at Last Chance Rd. & back. Narrow country road with several sharp turns, pavement poor to good. The start site is located just north of Davenport near the southern intersection of Swanton Road and Highway 1, the start is located about 250 yards up Swanton Road off of Highway 1. The turnaround is marked at Last Chance Road (first sight of ocean). No facilities, bring water. First rider off at 6:15 p.m., last rider off at 6:45 p.m., daylight permitting. NOTE: Swanton Rd. is a low-traffic public roadway, this is NOT a closed course. Helmets req'd. Free! 5/9-11 Reno River Festival Street Rapids: Reno, NV. "Street Rapids" transforms the streets of downtown Reno into a 750 ft. course featuring daunting and intimidating obstacles. "Street Rapids" includes open, Pee Wee, amateur and professional invitational competitions, culminating in the first-ever Reno River Festival "Street Rapids" champion, May 11. 5/10-11 Golden Empire Classic: & SCNCA Road Race Championships! Bakersfield. A challenging loop over Round Mountain with lots of climbing & some breathtaking descents. 5/18 Arcata Downtown Criterium: Arcata. 20, 30, & 50 minute crits; 20 minute fat tire crit, too! Each lap is 0.72 miles. Pavement condition is good with some rough spots on the H. St. descent. 5/25 SugarCRM Mt Hamilton Classic: San Jose. This beautiful, classic road race course climbs 4,500 ft. in 20 miles to the top of Mt. Hamilton, then continues 43 mi. through remote ranch lands to the finish in Livermore or choose the shorter course that starts on the back of Mt. Hamilton, at elevation 2,200 ft., avoiding the main climb. It rolls into Livermore, with one 800 ft., 3 mi. climb. 5/26 SugarCRM Memorial Day Criterium: San Jose. 11 races fill the day, starting with Elite 5s and ending with Pro 1/2.
